🧠 Lecture: "Jimi Hendrix in New York: The Making of a Legend"
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Tom Rizzuto
Join us for a captivating evening exploring how New York City shaped Jimi Hendrix into the legend we know today. Before he was a global icon, Hendrix spent years as an unknown sideman—but it was in New York where he truly found his voice, and where the music industry finally discovered him.
Dr. Tom Rizzuto will uncover little known stories from Hendrix’s New York years, revealing how the city’s energy, culture, and chaos infused his groundbreaking sound. You’ll also examine Hendrix’s enduring legacy, why his music still resonates so powerfully, and how New York provided the backdrop to some of the most dramatic chapters of his meteoric rise and untimely fall.
Dr. Rizzuto is a professor of music history, guitar, and media at Molloy University and SUNY Old Westbury. A native New Yorker, he holds advanced degrees in music and education, and his TEDxTalk, “Why Streaming Can’t Replace Physical Media,” was selected as an editor’s pick by TED.com.
