🧠 Lecture: "Constellations: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Moiya McTier
Officially, the sky is divided into 88 constellations, each with its own mythological backstory and dazzling astronomical objects. But according to astrophysicist and folklorist Dr. Moiya McTier, some constellations are undeniably epic… and others just plain suck.
In this fun, fast-paced talk, Dr. McTier will reveal the best and worst constellations in the night sky, unpacking their wild histories, the stories different cultures have told about them, and the cutting-edge science behind the stars that shape them. You’ll leave with a new way of looking up: a blend of wonder, skepticism, and celestial gossip.
Dr. Moiya McTier is an astrophysicist, folklorist, and writer. After graduating from Harvard and Columbia, she has given hundreds of talks around the world, consulted on multiple Disney projects, and advocated for artist rights in the AI era. She shares her expertise through her podcast Pale Blue Pod and her books The Milky Way and Mothers of Invention.
