Join us for a captivating evening as ocean researcher and robotics specialist Phil Parisi, alongside museum curator Libbie Barnes, reveals the hidden world beneath Lake Union. Over one hundred targets of interest—including barges, shipwrecks, and even cars—rest on the lake’s bottom, leaving major gaps in Seattle’s maritime story.
Learn how the newly founded Shipwreck City project is working to film never-before-seen wrecks using Finn, a blue remote-controlled robot about the size of a microwave. You’ll hear stories from the Shipwreck City team as they build the most up-to-date archive of Seattle shipwrecks and uncover what lies just beneath the surface of our city’s beloved central lake.
Phil Parisi, founder of ShipwreckCity.org, holds a Master’s in Ocean Engineering and has worked for two U.S. National Laboratories developing unmanned systems. Passionate about using robots to benefit humanity, he now combines cutting-edge robotics with underwater exploration and serves as the president of a non-profit. Libbie Barnes has worked across Seattle's museum community, including the Center of Wooden Boats, MOHAI, and Museum of Flight, and builds connections between Shipwreck City and the local community.
