What if we have misunderstood the “Uncanny Valley” (不気味の谷; bukimi no tani) from the start? Japanese engineer Mori Masahiro’s original idea was more than simply a warning about robots that look almost human. He offered a broader perspective on design, perception, and how people react to technology. Drawing on newly discovered sources, this talk will explore what Mori meant and why his insight still matters today.

Table for Two | Onigiri Action
Following the talk, celebrate the fall season with , ’s annual social good campaign. Every photo of a onigiri (おにぎり; rice ball) posted on the campaign website or your social media with #OnigiriAction provides five school meals to children in need. Participants will have the opportunity to sample onigiri while learning how this simple, beloved food continues to bring people together and make a global impact.
