Join us on November 10 for an engaging lecture with Mitchell Gray, who will examine Christopher Clark’s acclaimed book The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914. Clark challenges long‑held assumptions about the outbreak of World War I, arguing that the conflict was not predetermined but the result of decisions made by leaders who were “watchful but unseeing,” aware of rising tensions yet blind to the consequences of their actions. Beginning his narrative in 1903 with the assassination of Serbia’s King Alexander and Queen Draga, Clark traces how Balkan instability and nationalist fervor set the stage for a global crisis.Mitchell Gray is a veteran of the Oklahoma National Guard, having deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007–2008. He currently serves as the State Attorney for the Oklahoma Military Department.
