A history of relations , between romanticization, historical encounters and modern criticismAbout this Event
This presentation examines the complex relationship between Germans and Native North Americans, contrasting a romanticized, Karl May-inspired cultural obsession with the harsh realities of historical exploitation and colonial fantasies. The lecture will also look into the exploitation of indigenous North American culture, by using cultural, ethical and artistic elements for building the fascist ideologies of Nazi Germany. It argues for moving beyond stereotypes of "Noble Savages" to foster a respectful dialogue on contemporary indigenous self-determination.
