In this edition of the Media Matters event series, we invite journalists, media representatives, journalism students and other interested parties to attend a lecture by Latvian investigative journalist Olga Dragiļeva (the investigative journalism centre Re:Baltica).Olga will discuss her reporting on some of the most widely discussed recent cases involving allegations of sexual abuse. She will take the audience behind the investigations, explaining how journalists find and verify sources, investigate allegations dating back years, handle sensitive testimonies and documentary evidence, approach those accused of wrongdoing, and decide what can responsibly be published.
The lecture will also address what happens after publication, including complaints, legal pressure and the responsibility that comes with reporting on highly sensitive cases. Here is a chance to learn how journalists bring difficult stories to light and navigate the challenges along the way.
Olga Dragiļeva is an investigative journalist at the investigative journalism centre Re:Baltica with more than 15 years of experience in leading Latvian media, including LTV’s investigative programme “De Facto” and Delfi TV’s “Kāpēc”.
