Learning Lounge | Small Group Learning for Ages 4–6
Small enough to know every child. Social enough to learn together.
Learning Lounge is a small group, semi structured learning programme delivered by The Behaviour Base Foundation CIC in St Albans.
Designed for children aged 4 to 6, our sessions bring together early education, communication, social development and play in a calm, supportive environment.
We recognise that children learn differently, and that being ready to learn doesn't always mean being ready for a busy classroom.
Learning Lounge offers a smaller, more flexible environment where children can build skills, confidence and independence while learning alongside others.
What happens at Learning Lounge?
Our sessions combine short group learning activities, purposeful play, individual learning opportunities and time to explore.
Children have opportunities to take part in:
- Early literacy and numeracy: Exploring reading, writing, mathematical concepts and problem solving through engaging activities.
- Communication and language: Developing understanding, expressing ideas, asking questions and communicating needs.
- Social learning: Sharing experiences, working alongside peers, developing friendships and participating in group activities.
- Independence and self advocacy: Making choices, asking for help, expressing preferences and developing confidence.
- Creative and practical learning: Exploring ideas through construction, games, sensory activities, creativity and play.
Activities are informed by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and early primary learning, with flexibility to meet individual developmental and educational needs.
A Different Approach to Small Group Learning
Learning Lounge isn't simply a smaller classroom.
We combine structured learning opportunities with flexibility, recognising that children may need different levels of support, movement, time or ways to participate.
Our sessions are:
- Small: A maximum of five children, with a target ratio of one adult to four children.
- Semi structured: A balance of short group activities, individual learning and purposeful play.
