About this Event
Come learn to make kadhi, a spicy yogurt dish eaten with rice! (Ugh, explaining it in English doesn't do it justice. You're just going to have to come try it.) We'll fry up some spicy potatoes and eggplant (kaap) to eat on the side, because yum.
There are many types of kadhis throughout South Asia. We're going to learn one that my family makes. We're from Maharashtra, a state in the center-west of India. This is our homey comfort food at its best.
This class is led by South Philly resident Shebani Rao, who wants to show you that there is more to life and South Asian food than "curry" and chicken tikka masala. Shebani is obsessed with finding ingredients in the neighborhood and will point you to small businesses that will help you stock your kitchen. She is also passionate about how historical trends shape the food we eat, so you'll probably get a little side of history too.
This event is FREE to attend to help make South Asian cooking accessible to everyone! Feel free to make a donation to @shebani-rao on Venmo help cover supplies (suggested amount: $25).
