is a community first recovery and economic empowerment project launched in the wake of Hurricane Melissa to provide immediate relief and long-term recovery support rooted in community needs.
Post-disaster recovery in rural Jamaica is often slowed by limited infrastructure, delayed aid distribution, and barriers to accessing funding and business opportunities, especially for women. Many women entrepreneurs face structural challenges, including limited access to capital, mentorship, networking spaces, and financial institutions. In some cases, access to business opportunities is informally gatekept through male-dominated networks.
Community feedback following relief efforts made one need clear: consistent connectivity, business support, and safe spaces for women to rebuild and grow.
Now that immediate aid distribution was a huge success, we’re looking ahead to the next phase: providing microgrants and microloans to rebuild and grow women-owned businesses, quarterly business development workshops, mentorship and coaching, financial literacy resources, and networking and peer support opportunities.
