In the early 1800’s German educationist Friedrich Fröbel, founder of the Kindergarten concept, encouraged the use of paper folding in pre-primary education with the aim of conveying simple mathematical concepts to children. He was not the creator of the folded star, but he drove its popularity.
Froebel stars are commonly used as an ornament on Christmas trees and wreaths in Germany.
