About Angie Cui:
Angie Cui (aka Yanting Cui 崔彦婷) is a Melbourne-based Australian author with a deep love for children’s literature. She creates stories that spark curiosity, imagination, and empathy, often exploring family, identity, and the small, quietly magical moments of everyday life.
Born in Harbin, China, Angie moved to Australia at 18 to study a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) at Deakin University and later worked in banking. After the birth of her children, her career took a creative turn, leading her into writing and the book industry.
Her debut picture books, My Mum is a Bird (University of Queensland Press) and Our Map (Wombat Books), were published in 2025. Angie’s work blends whimsy with emotional depth, often weaving nature, imagination, and subtle fantastical elements into grounded, heartfelt stories.
She lives in Melbourne with her husband and two children and affectionately calls them an “ABC family” — four people, three cultures: Australian, Bangladeshi, and Chinese. Passionate about language, food, and cultural parenting, Angie enjoys playing with words and sounds, and is committed to ensuring children from diverse backgrounds see themselves reflected in the stories they read.
