"Enrol by 15th November and save 5% on your course fee — no code needed!"
Ever wondered how to create portraits that feel full of life and expression?
In this workshop, you’ll develop your portrait painting skills while exploring the distinctive style of John Singer Sargent. Discover how he used confident brushwork, rich texture and the Alla Prima (wet-on-wet) technique to create his expressive portraits.
Working in either acrylics or oils, you’ll experiment with these techniques in your own work and discover how careful planning can create the appearance of loose, spontaneous painting.
What Will I Need:
You can choose to paint using acrylics or oil paints, depending on your preference.
You will need a set of acrylics or oil paints, brushes suitable for acrylics or oils, a palette, canvas or canvas board (size A2), turpentine (should you choose to paint in oils) as acrylics are water based, a few empty jars, a table easel and an artist apron or an old clothing recommended.
You will be able to purchase your art materials from professional art shops, the Works or online art retailers according to your budget.
