Leadership Scholars Academy™ Session 3: Leading Continuous Quality Improvement Through Lean

2‑Day Interactive Workshop Agenda

Program Description

This two‑day, Green Belt–aligned Lean training provides healthcare and service professionals with hands‑on experience applying Lean principles, waste identification, problem‑solving tools, and leadership strategies to drive sustainable quality improvement. Participants engage in simulations, real‑world scenarios, and team‑based learning to build practical, immediately applicable improvement skills.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this two-day educational activity, participants will be able to:

1. Explain and apply core Lean principles (value, flow, pull, and continuous improvement) to identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and outcomes in healthcare and service environments.

2. Identify and analyze waste (TIMWOODS) within real or simulated work processes using structured observation, simple process mapping, and value‑stream concepts.

3. Apply essential Lean improvement and problem‑solving tools (e.g., 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, Kaizen, 5 Whys, and A3) to develop data‑informed improvement solutions.

4. Develop and interpret basic performance metrics and KPIs to evaluate process performance, monitor progress, and support continuous improvement efforts.

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for healthcare and service professionals who are responsible for improving quality, efficiency, and operational performance and who want to build practical, hands-on skills in Lean methodology. Ideal participants include:

  • Nurse leaders and clinical managers (e.g., charge nurses, supervisors, managers, directors) seeking to lead unit- or department-based improvement initiatives
  • Frontline healthcare professionals (nurses, allied health professionals, technicians) interested in identifying inefficiencies and driving meaningful change in daily work processes
  • Quality, safety, and performance improvement professionals involved in Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement efforts
  • Interprofessional team members (e.g., case managers, administrators, support services leaders) contributing to workflow redesign, patient experience, or operational excellence
  • Emerging leaders and high-potential staff preparing for roles that require problem-solving, data-informed decision-making, and process improvement expertise
  • Experienced leaders seeking structured Lean training aligned with Green Belt–level competencies and practical application tools

Participants will benefit most if they are actively engaged in—or preparing to lead—process improvement initiatives and are motivated to apply Lean principles, tools, and leadership strategies to achieve measurable, sustainable results in healthcare or service environments.
