The Breath of Shiraz, in the Footsteps of Persian Dance
Workshop with Ali Ghaedi
(Iran, Montreal)
📅 Tuesday, November 3
🕗 7:00 PM
📍 Espace Culturel Kawalees
In Shiraz, city of poets and roses, it is said that the wind carries verses from street to street. Persian dance seems carved from that same breath: an ancestral art born in the courts of Shiraz and Persia, where poetry, classical music, and Sufi spirituality meet in gesture. The curve of a wrist, the undulation of the torso, a light turn, each movement tells an emotion more than it illustrates one, carrying the memory of a civilization devoted to the beauty of gesture and the grace of breath.
This workshop unfolds in two parts. Dancer and teacher Ali Ghaedi, trained in Iranian choreographic traditions, first offers a short presentation revealing the richness and subtlety of this dance, poised between precision of gesture and freedom of interpretation. The audience is then invited to step into the dance themselves, in a workshop where one learns to listen to the rhythm, to follow the breath, and to inhabit space differently.
No dance experience is required. All that matters is the desire to move, to breathe differently, and to let oneself be carried by a tradition in which movement becomes language.
