A Charming Opéra-Comique of Love, Secrets & Snow-Covered Mischief
A secluded mountain chalet, a mysterious stranger, and a young woman determined to follow her heart… What could possibly go wrong?
Escape to the picturesque Swiss Alps in Le Chalet, Adolphe Adam’s delightful opéra-comique filled with romance, humor, and unexpected twists. At the center of the story is Bettly, a spirited young woman whose independence has made her the talk of the village. Pursued by the earnest Daniel, she seems determined to avoid marriage altogether. But when a mysterious traveler seeks shelter in her chalet during a winter storm, misunderstandings, disguises, and a little clever matchmaking soon set the stage for a whirlwind of comic confusion.
With its sparkling melodies, charming characters, and heartwarming story, Le Chalet is a beloved gem of the French operatic repertoire. Adam’s enchanting score captures the beauty of the Alpine countryside while delivering moments of laughter, tenderness, and joy that continue to delight audiences nearly two centuries after its premiere.
Before the performance, audiences will be treated to a special pre-show recital featuring beloved French arias. This intimate musical presentation will showcase the beauty and elegance of the French vocal tradition, offering the perfect introduction to an evening celebrating one of France's hidden jewels.
