About this Event
Join artists featured in Layers of the City for an engaging panel discussion at Bakersfield Museum of Art exploring the experiences, communities, and changing urban environments that inform their work. Moderated by Steve Galindo, Assistant Director at Track 16 Gallery, curator, and arts consultant, the conversation will bring together Hedy Torres, Felix Quintana, Linda Vallejo, Narsiso Martinez, and additional artists to be announced.
Through their individual practices, the artists consider the city from a range of perspectives, addressing themes of migration, labor, identity, memory, technology, community, and belonging. Together, they will reflect on the ideas connecting their work within Layers of the City while discussing how personal histories and lived experiences shape the ways they understand and represent the places around them. The discussion will also consider the city as an ever-changing environment, shaped not only by architecture and infrastructure, but by the people, cultures, and histories that give it meaning.
The program will conclude with an audience Q&A and an opportunity to engage with the participating artists, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the practices and perspectives that come together throughout .
