About this Event

The Ultimo Shorts collection is a special release of five short books to mark the imprint’s fifth birthday.

‘Five years of Ultimo Press is a milestone worth shouting about, but instead of throwing a standard party, we decided to do what we do best: publish,’ says Ultimo Press Publishing Director, Robert Watkins.

‘Specifically, we are celebrating our fifth anniversary by releasing five gorgeous, expertly crafted short books. I have always had a massive soft spot for the short form—there is a unique magic in a narrative that is fiercely concise, beautifully written, and can be devoured in a single sitting. We wanted to create a collection that reflects this love: beautifully designed, incredibly high-quality books that are accessible, inexpensive, and look absolutely stunning on your shelf.’

The collection includes: Afraid of the Dark by Hossein Asgari, Economista by Bruna Gomes, Partum by Katherine Brabon, Something That Never Existed in the First Place by Aisling Smith and The Young Geriatric by Elizabeth Bryer.

Books will be available for purchase and Katherine, Aisling and Elizabeth will be available to sign on the evening.

Partum is a book about the mind and body of a writer, and the mind and body of a mother who is writing.

In Something That Never Existed in the First Place four interwoven stories make up an extraordinarily relatable novel about relationships, each set in a different city, in which the characters grapple with loss, infidelity, trust, and connection.

The Young Geriatric is a taut, interior thriller that studies the power plays that develop when the world stops looking.
