This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HOTWORX Chapel Hill is coming together to support a very special member of our community, Laney Poole.
At just 32 years old, Laney was diagnosed with breast cancer, specifically mucinous adenocarcinoma. Knowing she had a family history of breast cancer, Laney advocated for herself and requested mammograms at an earlier age. Although she was told she was young for routine screening, she continued to advocate for her health—and that decision made a difference.
Laney's cancer was caught early and included both an invasive and non-invasive component. Her journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of knowing your body, advocating for your health, and never being afraid to ask questions or seek the care you feel you need.
Laney's treatment journey is just beginning. As of now, she will undergo 12 rounds of chemotherapy, one year of targeted therapy, and radiation. While she focuses on healing, we want to come alongside her and help ease some of the financial burden that comes with such an extensive treatment plan.
In Laney's honor, HOTWORX Chapel Hill is hosting a breast cancer awareness and fundraising event to raise financial support for Laney while bringing our community together to spread awareness and encourage women of all ages to know their bodies, advocate for their health, and support one another.
Half of the proceeds raised will be donated to the foundation of Laney's choice, while the remaining half will go toward helping cover her medical expenses.
Let's come together this Breast Cancer Awareness Month to support Laney, raise awareness, and remind her that she is not fighting alone.
