In ‘79 Lacy signed with Columbia Records, where she was labeled an ‘Outlaw.’ This led to world-wide touring with the likes of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams Jr. “Crazy Blue Eyes” became her debut single and first of many Billboard hits, including her signature track “16th Avenue.” Rolling Stone described Lacy’s sound as “deeply indebted to R&B-influenced rock”, with a voice being “scratched and juke-joint smoky!” Today, Lacy is recognized as a pioneer in the singer-songwriter genre, with a music catalog that is streamed in the millions.
People Magazine described Lacy as “Country’s Bonnie Raitt.” This was a nod to Lacy’s natural ability to pave her own musical path; something both women have done immeasurably well. Her strong and persevering heart makes her one of the most vital and distinguishable touring artists of today. Radio hits “Hard Times”, “Takin’ It Easy” and “Everybody Makes Mistakes” are very often found on her concert setlists. The global hit single “Black Coffee” brought Lacy a new era of fans when it raced up the charts with its moody undercurrent and hypnotizing acoustic rhythm.
Some of Lacy’s newer works may be her most beautifully delivered and impactful.
