About this Event
We will be looking at the beginning of lace shawl work. The intention of this workshop is to provide you with all the information you will need to produce a triangular shawl consisting of one, two or even three lace patterns. The beauty of these shawls is that no matter what wool you use you will see that they keep in proportion (this is useful when blocking) so the depth down from the top to the bottom point is precisely half of the width along the top edge.
I will show you how to begin your shawl using a tabular cast on which is the type I find most effective for this type of work. We will then look at three patterns to begin with: I call them Leaf Pattern (which we will also use for the edging); Flower Pattern and a Zig-zag Pattern. These are obviously just three of the myriad of patterns that can be used in lacework but they are all really simple and use just use four simple techniques.
