“So much time lost for art” (*)
Hello! Tomorrow, November 8th—as happens every Sunday at noon—the Brussels Speakers' Corner will take place at the Espace Maurice Wolf, a space dedicated to freedom of expression, the work of remembrance, and creative freedom. Come join us from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Rue du Faucon in the Marolles district, at the foot of the *Monument aux Vivants* (Monument to the Living) by sculptor Maurice Wolf. Right there, at the base of the Brussels Palace of Justice, under our shared sky, a man falls asleep every sunset—a man alone, without a home, and therefore, with no possibility of any “home visits”... This man is alive, and we breathe beneath the same sky. Welcome home!

It was from his cell in Siegburg that Maurice Wolf wrote these words—letters from captivity that stand as final testaments to the power of creative freedom.
About Maurice Wolf (1902–1942)
Maurice Wolf was born on September 28, 1902, in Brussels, and was murdered by the SS at the Mauthausen concentration camp on June 17, 1942.
Maurice Wolf was born into a Brussels family of Jewish origin. He became a sculptor, having graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and the Free University of Brussels. A freethinker and a Freemason, Maurice Wolf was wounded in combat in May 1940 and held as a prisoner of war in Germany. He was later repatriated to Belgium for medical reasons, at which point he joined the Secret Army, becoming a member of the Resistance. Founder of the clandestine press organ "La Voix des Belges" ("The Voice of the Belgians"), he was betrayed, sentenced to 10 years of hard labor, imprisoned at Saint-Gilles, deported to Siegburg, and subsequently sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp. It was there that he was murdered by the SS... without any assistance from the Belgian State...
Maurice Wolf was awarded the rank of Knight of the Order of the Crown (military division) and Knight of the Order of Leopold II (artistic division).
