Kronos Quartet’s A Hard Rain is a multimedia concert exploring the fragility of civilization and humanity’s capacity to avert catastrophe. Created in collaboration with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and inspired by the Doomsday Clock, the program brings together music, spoken word, historical accounts, and scientific perspectives to examine the existential threats facing our world and the measures taken to safeguard it. The program features Kronos’ reimagining of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” alongside collaborations with musicians and poets, weaving together reflections and stories of brushes with catastrophe, revealing how close humanity has come to disaster while honoring the people who have worked to change its course.
More than a concert, A Hard Rain is an artistic reckoning with the choices that shape our collective future, and a reminder of the urgent need for vigilance, collaboration, and hope.

We will explore what the Doomsday Clock means, and how the Kronos Quartet seeks to engage audiences on these issues through their music. Speakers include David Harrington, founder of the Kronos Quartet, and Alexandra Bell, president and CEO of the Bulletin.
