Kothalap is a curated afternoon centered around Shruti Natok, a Bengali\Hindi theatrical storytelling form in which stories and dramatic works are brought to life primarily through voice, dialogue, expression, and interpretation. Rather than presenting it simply as a series of performances, we are designing the afternoon as an interactive cultural experience. The performances will be woven together with conversations about the stories, the creative process, the performers' interpretations, and the art of Shruti Natok itself.
One of Seattle Theaterwala's goals has always been to create opportunities for our community to experience theater and storytelling while also making these art forms accessible to a broader audience. Through Kothalap, we hope to create an intimate setting where audiences can not only listen to the performances but also engage with the artists and with one another around the stories, voices, and emotions behind the work.
The program is free and open to the public, and we are encouraging community members to attend with their families and friends. Free refreshments will also be provided.
