This year, the 90th anniversary of the death of Dezső Kosztolányi, the Literarium series focuses on one of the pivotal oeuvres of modern Hungarian literature, with this instalment recalling the multifaceted character of Hungary’s ‘homo aestheticus’: Kosztolányi’s playful alter ego Kornél Esti, Kosztolányi the prose writer sensitive to psychological profundity, and Kosztolányi the poet and master of the innate musicality of language. Not only will the selected texts and their musical accompaniment evoke the past, they will also bring the writer’s voice – one that is simultaneously ironic and full of compassion, and still relevant today – closer to the audience.
