Know Before You Vote: Tennessee Constitutional AmendmentsWhen Tennessee voters head to the polls this November, they will find three proposed amendments to the Tennessee Constitution on their ballots.
The amendments address:
• Expanding judges’ authority to deny bail for certain additional violent offenses
• Creating constitutional rights for crime victims
• Prohibiting state government from taxing real or personal property
Each amendment will appear as a separate yes-or-no question on the ballot.
The League encourages voters to learn about the issues, consider the information, and make their own informed decisions at the ballot box.
Join us Sunday, October 18, for a League educational program featuring Brandon L. Burley, retired Tennessee detective, former infantry Marine, criminal-justice educator, investigative journalist, and host of The Redemption Project, recipient of a 2025 SPJ Podcast of the Year award.
Brandon will explain the proposals in plain language and examine what each amendment would change, what it would leave untouched, and the strongest arguments offered by supporters and critics. He will also explain how constitutional amendments reach the ballot and why the exact legal language matters.
The goal is not to tell voters how to vote. It is to help voters understand the authority, safeguards, tradeoffs, and unanswered questions behind each proposal before they make that judgment for themselves.
