Violent crime is on the rise in New York City. Knowing how to defend yourself — and your family — isn't optional anymore.
Knife Defense & Tactical Folding Knife 101 is a beginner-friendly course for anyone with zero experience in self-defense weapons. It's the civilian version of the Armed Edged Weapon Training taught to law enforcement and military professionals — adapted into a hands-on classroom + practical training session that teaches you the fundamentals of tactical folding knives and how to use one for self-defense.
You'll leave with the confidence to handle an armed confrontation, a clear understanding of what defensive tool is right for you, and the foundational skills required before advancing to our higher-level edge weapon courses.
No live blades are used in this course.

Beginners. No prior self-defense or weapons experience required.

- Valid state ID or driver's license
- 18 years or older
- No felony convictions

Course Details
📅 Date: Saturday, September 26th
🕐 Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (Registration opens 12:30 PM)
📍 Location: Trigon Tactics, Queens, NY

🎒 What to bring: Cargo pants or jeans with a sturdy belt, and sneakers. All training gear and equipment provided.

Your Instructor: Sonny Mayo
Sonny Mayo has over 40 years of experience in armed weapons training, specializing in firearms, edged weapons, and impact weapons. Trained by top weapons masters in both the Philippines and the U.S., he's the founder and lead instructor of Trigon Tactics — New York City's premier law enforcement and military combatives training school.
Since 2010, defensive tactics and combatives instructors have trained with Sonny regularly to stay current on weapons force-on-force drills and tactics. He's a sought-after instructor for law enforcement agencies teaching close-quarters combat with edge, impact, and pistol weapons — featured at the 2010 and 2011 Law Enforcement Expo (Jacob Javits Center, NYC & Pittsburgh, PA), and a recurring combatives instructor for the 1/106 Military Police Battalion at Camp Smith, NY.
