About this Event
Over the last 45 years, Kiril has made some remarkable and contrarian calls, including seeing the boom in supply-side economics in 1977, the coming disinflation in 1982 (he wrote a book about it — Is inflation ending? Are you ready?), the rise of China in 1992, the coming boom in technology, the Internet and e-commerce in 1994, and the oil boom of the 2000s, which he identified in 2002, with oil at $20 on its way to $147 in 2008. In the next decade, he saw that the yen had finally peaked in October 2012 and it was time to go short the yen and very long Japanese stocks.
In December 2015, he turned super bullish on gold at $1050 and authored a piece entitled “The first will be last and the last will be first”. In 2019, he said that bonds as “risk free assets” was laughable with interest rates at 5000-year lows and $18 trillion of sovereign debt with negative yields. In September 2020, he announced the long 40-year bond bull market was over, as was disinflation. He predicted a secular rise in inflation and long-term interest rates.
Join us as our very own Russell Napier interviews Sokoloff and asks him what were the specific reasons the majority did not see these events coming and what were the enabling indicators that gave him the confidence and the courage to take a major position. And how much of this was attributable to his long and intense study of history over his adult life?
