Celebrate Labor Day weekend with a tour exploring labor & industrial history!
Chicago for Chicagoans is thrilled to bring back our tour exploring the uniquely historic Kinzie Industrial District! Led by industrial historian and preservationist Erica Ruggiero, this adventure will awaken you to the magic of vintage industrial properties.
Beginning at the Ashland Green/Pink Line stop, we'll explore the history, architecture, and development of an area that's bustled with business since the turn of the 20th century. Once home to the city's first railroad line and companies like Heinz and Dixie Cups, today you'll find lots of breweries, business incubators, coffee roasters, arts & cultural organizations, and boutique construction companies tucked along its streets. After the tour, participants are encouraged to join the group for an afternoon pick-me-up at Metric Coffee!
Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans. Donate online fee-free at chicagoforchicagoans.org.
