This workshop invites participants into the practice of embodied contemplation—an approach modeled after Cole Arthur Riley’s framework in This Here Flesh. Rather than treating meditation as a mandate to empty the mind, this session reframes contemplative practice as a space to actively engage, honor, and come to terms with our personal histories, lived experiences, and core emotions.

Core Workshop Focus

Creative Processing: Participants will use poetry as a tangible tool to give concrete shape to personal narratives, making complex internal experiences accessible both to themselves and to others.
Reflective Analysis: Attendees will examine various creatively portrayed stories to analyze how specific elements of craft, detail selection, and levels of vulnerability impact narrative expression.
Self-Discovery & Healing: The session provides a reflective space to pinpoint significant emotional markers and identity elements, guiding writers toward self-acceptance and healing.

Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to define embodied contemplation in their own words, critically evaluate vulnerability and craft in creative works, identify key emotional themes within their own lives, and complete an original creative mini-project that reflects and reinterprets a pivotal personal story.
