About this Event
This Kinusaiga Cardinal Workshop is designed to be beginner-friendly, requiring no sewing or previous experience. In this class you’ll learn the relaxing and satisfying magic of scoring, trimming, and tucking fabrics to bring a vibrant red cardinal to life.
The Northern Cardinal is widely regarded as a symbol of hope, love, and sweet remembrance. Your finished piece will make for the perfect seasonal decor for your home, or can be given as a deeply meaningful handmade gift.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to transfer an image to the foam base through scoring techniques using a craft knife.
- Tucking, tensioning, and corner-clipping techniques using simple tools like a seam ripper and scissors.
- How to cut out the pieces in fabric, and how to strategically place the fabrics for visual appeal.
About Kinusaiga:
- It is pronounced "kee-new-sigh-gah".
- This art form was created in Japan in the 1980's by artist Maeno Takashi.
- The philosophy of this art form was intended to cultivate resourcefulness by turning leftover silk or cotton kimono scraps into art.
