Learn how to repair pottery with Kintsugi, and discover wabi-sabi (δΎ˜ε―‚), the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection.
About this Event

Please beware of more expensive imitations!

Discover the ancient art of Kintsugi with Amelia in a fun and creative way. Kintsugi, which literally translates as 'golden joinery', celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection.

In this beginners workshop you will:

  • be given your own tool kit for use on the day which will contain all the materials and items you need for this workshop.
  • learn step-by-step how to safely break pottery and to repair it with gold, thereby embracing the cracks to make unique pieces of art.
  • make two finished Kintsugi pieces to take home which make beautiful mementoes of the day and can be used as ornaments or gifts.

πŸ’– Why this workshop is so special:

  • Kintsugi is a mindful, meditative art form that celebrates the beauty in imperfection.
  • It is a relaxing creative experience that you can share with others.
  • Your Kintsugi ceramics are unique personalised pieces of art that embrace the power of transformation.

lady_magpie2 Aw what a fabulous way to spend Sunday morning! I thoroughly enjoyed this session, I had no idea of what kintsugi is, so this was a great taster session to discover it. I highly recommend giving this a go. Amelia is a fantastic tutor, very welcoming and friendly. I'm already looking forward to her return to the Beacon at Whitehaven 😍
