About this Event
The DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) invites you to participate in a virtual charrette for the Kingman & Heritage Islands Structures and Trails Design Project.
Building on our earlier charrettes in Phase 1, this session will focus on Defining Characteristics. The project team will share how structures and trails can be designed to reflect the character and themes of the Islands. Imagery, precedents, features, and materials will show how each of the project's Design Elements could come to life.
We'll walk through design options for proposed features across the Islands, including the Revitalized Benning Entry, the Meadow Pavilion, Eagle's Overlook, Marsh Landing, the Boating, FLOAT, and Understory Classrooms, and the Islands' trail system. We also want your input on where additional trailside features could go, such as seating, benches, and gazebos, and how people might use them.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions and provide input that can help inform future project development.
What We'll Discuss
- How structures and trails can reflect the character and themes of the Islands
- Imagery, precedents, and materials for the Design Elements
- Design options for proposed classrooms, gathering spaces, overlooks, and entries
- The planned trail system
- Potential locations and uses for trailside features
- Next steps for the project
- Opportunities for discussion with the project team
There are three session options for the "Defining Characteristics" topic. Each session covers the same content, so choose the one that works best for you. See other sessions here.
This charrette is part of the 30% Design Phase of a two-year design period. We hope you'll join us as we continue planning for the future of Kingman & Heritage Islands. For more information, please contact us at [email protected] or visit our website.
