Killeen Kwanzaa Celebration

The Killeen Kwanzaa Celebration is an in-person gathering for friends and family celebrating three decades of Kwanzaa in Killeen, Texas.

Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the event starts at 6:00 PM. During Kwanzaa, people greet each other with “Habari Gani?”—Swahili for “What’s the news?” The response is the name and meaning of that day’s principle from the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles):

•

• December 26: Umoja (Unity)

• December 27: Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)

• December 28: Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)

• December 29: Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)

• December 30: Nia (Purpose)

• December 31: Kuumba (Creativity)

• January 1: Imani (Faith)
