[DEUTSCH UNTEN]This year, Shtetl Berlin has a full two-day kids' program at ufaFabrik — and it's going to be something special. On June 13 & 14, children are at the center of it all: dancing, playing, telling stories, and creating together while exploring a little of the world of Yiddish culture. No experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to join in. The group will have its own dedicated space during the festival, and will also come together with the wider community for the klezmer brunch, jam session, and community dance, where the kids are right in the middle of it all. The workshop moves naturally between English, German, Russian, and a little bit of Yiddish. Parents are free to enjoy the rest of the festival while their children are in the workshop.
The program is led by two outstanding interdisciplinary artists with deep roots in the Yiddish cultural world. Yeva Lapsker is a choreographer, performer, and translator born in Leningrad and based in Hamburg, whose work weaves together Yiddish dance, Argentinian tango, theater, and music. A co-founder of Shtetl Berlin, she has performed as a dancer and choreographer internationally, including for the Netflix series Unorthodox, and brings her experience as a mother naturally into her work with children. Eyal Davidovitch is a multidisciplinary artist working across film, visual art, design, and music. Over seven years of active involvement in the Yiddish cultural world, he has taught and led programs at Yiddish Summer Weimar, KlezKanada, Paideia, and The Other Music Academy — always with a particular focus on children and young people.

Dieses Jahr hat Shtetl Berlin ein zweitägiges Kinderprogramm in der ufaFabrik — und es wird etwas ganz Besonderes. Am 13. und 14. Juni stehen die Kinder im Mittelpunkt: Tanzen, Spielen, Geschichtenerzählen und gemeinsames Gestalten, dabei ein bisschen in die Welt der jiddischen Kultur eintauchen. Keine Vorkenntnisse nötig — nur Neugier und Lust mitzumachen. Die Gruppe hat ihren eigenen Raum im Festival und trifft sich auch mit der gesamten Festivalgemeinschaft beim Klezmer-Brunch, der Jam-Session und beim Gemeinschaftstanz, wo die Kinder mittendrin sind. Das Programm bewegt sich zwischen Englisch, Deutsch, Russisch und ein bisschen Jiddisch. Eltern können währenddessen das restliche Festivalprogramm genießen.
Das Programm wird von zwei herausragenden interdisziplinären Künstlern mit tiefen Wurzeln in der jiddischen Kulturwelt geleitet. Eyal Davidovitch ist ein multidisziplinärer Künstler, der in den Bereichen Film, Bildende Kunst, Design und Musik arbeitet. In sieben Jahren aktiver Beteiligung an der jiddischen Kulturwelt hat er Programme bei Yiddish Summer Weimar, KlezKanada, Paideia und The Other Music Academy geleitet — immer mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Kinder und Jugendliche.
