Ki Results: Practical Approaches with Lymphatic Drainage for Everyday Treatments
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle and versatile approach that can add another layer of understanding to the way massage therapists work with the body. From relaxation and seasonal congestion to swelling and recovery, understanding the lymphatic system gives practitioners more options for responding thoughtfully to what each client brings to the table.
This hands-on 12-hour continuing education course is designed to help massage therapists have a better understanding of the lymphatic system and confidently integrate lymphatic drainage into everyday treatments. Participants explore the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, from superficial pathways to deeper structures, while developing an understanding of how lymphatic function relates to fluid movement, immune function, and overall wellbeing.
Throughout the course, participants learn practical techniques that can be adapted for a variety of client needs, including relaxation, allergies and sinus congestion, swelling, inflammation, and general lymphatic support. Rather than relying on a rigid protocol, the emphasis is on understanding what you are doing and why—learning to notice what is present, consider the client’s goals and health history, and make thoughtful choices about when and how lymphatic techniques may be appropriate.
Special emphasis is placed on integration. Lymphatic drainage does not have to exist separately from the bodywork you already provide. Individual techniques can be incorporated into a traditional massage session or brought together to create a stand-alone lymphatic treatment, giving practitioners greater flexibility in responding to each client.
The gentle nature of lymphatic work also offers an opportunity to explore pacing, pressure, body mechanics, and the practitioner’s own presence. Through demonstration, hands-on practice, and guided exploration, participants develop skills they can begin incorporating into their work immediately.
This course offers an accessible introduction to a deep and expansive modality—one that invites continued learning, curiosity, and exploration.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
• Identify key anatomical structures and pathways of the lymphatic system
• Explain the physiological role of the lymphatic system and its relationship to fluid balance and immune function
• Apply lymphatic drainage techniques safely and effectively
• Recognize when lymphatic drainage may be appropriate within a treatment session
• Integrate lymphatic techniques into existing massage sessions or bring them together as a stand-alone service
• Adapt techniques based on client goals, health history, and presenting concerns
• Apply appropriate pacing, pressure, and body mechanics to support both client comfort and practitioner longevity
