Music lies at the heart of Caroline Swinburne’s new novel, Khrushchev’s Piano, and in this special recital internationally acclaimed concert pianist Konstantin Lapshin will bring some of that music to life.Inspired by the inaugural International Tchaikovsky Competition in Soviet Moscow, the novel weaves together three generations of a musical family, with each chapter built around a piece of piano repertoire. It has been described by pianist Leon McCawley as “a must-read for pianists and music lovers”.
Konstantin has selected a programme ranging from Schubert and Chopin to Rachmaninov, Scriabin and Balakirev, alongside contemporary Ukrainian composer Valentyn Silvestrov.
After the recital, join Caroline and Konstantin for a drinks reception and an opportunity to purchase signed copies of Khrushchev’s Piano.
