Presenting with Confidence: How to Captivate the Room & Own Your Voice
Being able to speak well, confidently and expressively in public is a crucial skill, and effective communication has never been as important as in today's fast-paced and divided world. Being in the spotlight can be intimidating, and educational systems often fall short in training young people to feel confident in front of an audience.
In this interactive lecture, Dr Anna Hobbiss will use her 15+ years of experience as an academic neuroscientist, alongside theatre and performance training, to:
- discuss why public speaking is a key skill for students to develop at the beginning of their career;
- show how to engage and keep an audience’s attention;
- and advise on what is the best way to tackle nerves that can cripple one's performance.
Her goal is to help everybody push past insecurities and fears to relish the spotlight and deliver their best.
About Anna Hobbiss:
Dr Anna Hobbiss is a neuroscientist based in Lisbon with over 15 years of research and teaching experience in behavioural and cellular neuroscience. Parallel to her research work (ranging from the cellular processes of memory formation, to defensive behaviour in insects) she developed a passion for public speaking, both communicating her own work and helping others find their voice on stage.
She now runs masterclasses and coaching sessions for professionals in varied areas to help them overcome nerves and elevate their performance.
