NZ Mountain Running Championships 2026 | Kaukau Skyline Traverse📅 Saturday 18 April 2026 | Johnsonville, Wellington
Wellington's iconic Mt Kaukau plays host to the most accessible NZ Mountain Running Championships in years — just 15 minutes from the CBD, public transport friendly, and open to everyone.
Four distances for all levels:
🔵 Sprint: 1.75km / 70m ascent — $24 (great for kids & first-timers!)
🟢 Short: 5.75km / 220m ascent — from $24
🟡 Medium: 8.75km / 400m ascent — from $39
🔴 Long: 12.15km / 600m ascent — from $49
Championship runners compete for NZ and Wellington Region titles alongside athletes who've represented NZ at world championships.
Fun runners — no club membership needed. Run the same spectacular courses, appear in the official results, and save $10 on Short, Medium and Long courses.
Everyone gets panoramic harbour views, technical trails along the Skyline Ridge, spot prizes, and an after function at Waiora Hub. On a good day you'll see the South Island. On a wild day... it's Wellington, so expect the unexpected. 🌬️
