WHAT IS RAKUGO?
Rakugo is a traditional Japanese form of comic storytelling with a history spanning centuries. Unlike a typical stage performance, a single storyteller sits on stage and brings an entire story—and its many characters—to life using only their voice, facial expressions, gestures, and a few simple props.
With humor, imagination, and the art of storytelling, Rakugo invites the audience into a world created by just one performer. It is a unique form of Japanese entertainment that has been enjoyed for generations.
WHO IS KATSURA SUNSHINE?
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Katsura Sunshine entered the world of Kamigata Rakugo as an apprentice to Rakugo master Katsura Bunshi VI.
Since then, he has brought the centuries-old art of Rakugo to audiences around the world, performing in Japan and internationally, including in New York and London. Through his performances in English, Sunshine introduces the humor and tradition of Rakugo to audiences from a wide variety of backgrounds.
His unique journey and international approach make this dinner show a special opportunity to experience an authentic Japanese performing art in an engaging and accessible way.
