About this Event
Begin with The Portal, an introduction to the maps, metaphors and theory that underpin the practice, then take it into your hands with The Practice, an exploration of adjustments, props and applying the theory to the body.
Join us for one or both. Each workshop stands on its own, while together they offer a deeper dive into seeing, understanding and working with the body through the Katonah lens.
PART I: THE PORTAL
An Introduction to Katonah Yoga®
Step through the portal and into the world of Katonah Yoga®. This workshop is an introduction to the theory, maps and metaphors that make the practice so special and dimensional.
We’ll begin with a physical practice that brings the theory to life, then explore the foundational maps and metaphors of Katonah Yoga®. We’ll introduce concepts like the body as a house, the Magic Square, personal measure and geometry, and explore how they give us a new lens for seeing the body, recognizing patterns and navigating the practice with greater awareness and intention.
Designed for anyone curious about Katonah, whether you’re experiencing it for the first time or looking to deepen your understanding of the theory.
THE PRACTICE
Hands On Adjustments + Theory in Form
This is where theory becomes practice. Through partner work and hands on exploration, we’ll look at how to read a pose, recognize patterns, work with personal measure and geometry, and use Katonah Yoga® theory to inform purposeful, intelligent adjustments.
Rather than memorizing a set of assists, we’ll explore how to see what’s happening in a body and use the theory to inform the form, giving you tools that can be applied across different poses, bodies and practices.
We’ll also explore the use of chairs, blocks, straps and blankets as tools for creating better structure, organization and form within a pose, and how props can work alongside hands-on adjustments to offer greater support, feedback and direction.
