About this Event
This workshop blends classical Kathak foundations with contemporary movement, set to Indian music. You’ll explore simple footwork, hand movements, expressions, and musicality in a way that feels fluid, expressive, and accessible. Each session builds on the previous one, helping you gain confidence and work toward a complete choreography.
Whether you're trying dance for the first time, reconnecting with Indian music, or simply looking for a creative way to unwind — this is a welcoming space for you.
WHAT IS KATHAK?
Kathak is an Indian classical dance form that originated in ancient temples and evolved over time by drawing inspiration from various cultures, including Persian influences. It is known for its storytelling, rhythmic footwork, graceful movements, and expressive artistry.
In some ways, Kathak can feel similar to ballet — both focus on posture, balance, and controlled movement. For example, if you’re familiar with ballet, pirouettes are similar to chakkars (spins) in Kathak — often performed with rhythmic footwork and expressive storytelling.
