About this Event
Join Compass Point, home of Dirty Girl Adventures for a Kansas River Adventure! We will paddle 10 miles on the Mighty Kaw traveling from Eudora to DeSoto. Along the way, we'll stop at sandbars to eat lunch, explore and treasure hunt. We'll also swim or float in the river. Please read this thoroughly.

11:30 OYO's Gear Drop atIf you are bringing your own kayak and gear please plan to drop your things here and then head to DeSoto to board the bus.
12:30pm ARRIVE AT to board the Dirty Bus for a ride to Eudora where we will launch onto the Wakarusa River to reach the Kaw.

What to expect: This adventure will last approximately 4-7 hours from the time you launch onto the river in Eudora. From DeSoto, you will ride the bus to Eudora where we will provide you with a kayak, life jacket and paddle then launch onto the Wakarusa River. You will be paddling your own kayak for 10 miles. The river has some flow but there is generally little or no floating. You will likely see a variety of wildlife along the way, we've seen eagles, beaver, otter and many other types of birds and deer. You will be dirty, sandy and tired by the end of the day but satisfied from a day full of nature, relaxation and fun with friends.
Other things to consider: to use the bathroom you will either submerge in the river or attempt to find a private spot on a sandbar, you will need to keep track of your trash - do not leave it in the kayak, we will pick up trash as we find it along the way - you will be given a mesh bag for your trash and found trash.
Bring: Sunscreen, at least 2L Water, electrolyte replacements, hearty snacks (fruit, cheese strings, nuts, jerky, protein bars)
Note: Small soft-sided coolers fit into the kayaks more easily - feel free to bring more than one. DO NOT bring a hard sided cooler.
Wear: hat, sunglasses, sun protective clothing, bandana or towel to get wet and cover exposed skin to help maintain your body temperature, water shoes or old tennis shoes, a (crocs and flip flops are not acceptable)
** We also suggest a car bag for post paddle - dry towel to sit on, dry clothes (things that will make the ride home more comfy)
Expected time commitment: However long it takes, we don’t rush; we go with the flow. This start time suggests we'll be off the early evening.
What are you paying for? Dirty Girl Adventures, LLC will organize the event, provide a guide, support on the river trail, and provide docent information throughout the event. We will monitor the weather and conditions to ensure that the event and participants are safe. Our knowledgeable and informed guide service includes a leading guide and a sweep guide during the paddle. The guide will direct you and your actions to the best of our ability. Support includes: first aid, knowledge of the environment and locale, safety monitoring, pacing, and interpretive information about the environment and locale.
In case you are wondering about our refund policy, refunds are given up to two weeks before the date of the event when the refund is requested in an email directed to [email protected]. After that, there are no refunds. Dirty Girl Adventures may cancel an event due to weather or conditions. Everyone will receive a refund if that is the reason for the cancellation. We will paddle and hike in cool, rainy or snowy conditions. Cancellation only occurs in severe weather or other dangerous conditions.
