KAI-EN BUTOH WORKSHOP
4 intensive training days in October and November 2026

An introduction to the vibrant world of butoh through KAI-EN butoh method.
The body is the centre of the work. In butoh, the body and the consciousness are pushed towards an intention of becoming other – other living beings, organic processes and forces. Butoh evokes an intense relation with the world through all senses. Through this process the body's relationship with the world is shifted. The body and the space becomes alive.
The method is based on SU-EN butoh method, which is KAI-EN´s training background. The aim is explicitly artistic – towards a dancing and performing body. No previous butoh or other dance training is required, though you are expected to engage full heartedly – physically and mentally. The workshop language will be Swedish or English according to participants.

KAI-EN studied with Swedish choreographer and butoh artist SU-EN. The name KAI-EN signifies the living link from SU-EN's body and method. SU-EN butoh method is developed out of Tomoe Shizune/Ashikawa method in the company Hakutobo, Tokyo. Yoko Ashikawa is a legendary butoh dancer who worked closely with one of the founders of butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata, during almost 20 years. There is a living link from Hijikata/Ashikawa/SU-EN/KAI-EN through an intense bodily transmission. Since her examination in 2010, KAI-EN produces performances and dance work in the name of KAI-EN Butoh Company.
