About this Event
Art. Music. Culture. One unforgettable night.
Overspray Art Supply & Gallery presents the official launch of The Book of Hip-Hop by legendary artist Justin BUA: a Thanksgiving weekend celebration of the people, stories, and creative spirit that changed the world.
Hosted by comedy icon Russell Peters and featuring legendary turntablist DJ Qbert, plus special guest MCs and DJs, this special evening brings the pages of BUA's monumental new book to life at The Cathedral, a historic 1921 landmark in Downtown Pomona's Arts District, just a short drive from Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Inland Empire.
The Book A lifetime in the making, The Book of Hip-Hop is BUA's tribute to the culture that raised him. This 359-page collector's edition, limited to 2,000 copies, documents a lifetime inside Hip-Hop through paintings, drawings, essays, and stories. It honors the artists and innovators who gave Hip-Hop its voice, from Grandmaster Flash to Cypress Hill, and from the pioneers who started a movement to the legends who carried it around the globe. As Big Daddy Kane puts it, BUA "visually documents our era's philosophies, ideologies, and culture."
The Artist BUA created a genre all his own by combining classical fine-art training with Hip-Hop as his subject, bringing the culture from the streets into the gallery world. His iconic painting The DJ has sold more than 16 million prints, making it one of the most recognized images in Hip-Hop art.
This is more than a book launch. It's a celebration of Hip-Hop.
