Join us for a powerful, one-day celebration of women’s voices, creativity & collective strength.
Sunday 8 MARCH - 10:30am - 6pm
Justice in Her Words is an interactive International Women’s Day programme centring wāhine stories, amplifying diverse voices & creating space for connection, expression & action. Designed to be accessible, intergenerational & culturally inclusive, this event invites the community to gather in a civic space to reflect, create & celebrate together.

Skill-building sessions for emerging writers, offering confidence & creative development.
Live Poetry -

Chalk & Typewriter Poetry Activations
Write, reflect & respond to the achievements of women past & present. Share your favourite quotes & contribute to a collective public expression of strength & solidarity.
FREE Girl Power Collage -
Sit, snip & create.
Pot-Luck Picnic & Open Mic -
Bring a plate, bring your friends, bring your whānau. We’ll close the day with shared kai, open mic moments & vibrant kōrero across generations.
Discover the pioneering women after whom the rooms of Ellen Melville Centre are named. Explore themes of equity & empowerment inspired by Lisa Reihana’s striking sculpture 'Justice', installed on the building’s exterior, honouring Ellen Melville herself, a lawyer, advocate & champion for women. The scales are tipped in favour of women, symbolising both history & hope.
This event is about visibility. It’s about storytelling. It’s about claiming space.
Come to be inspired.
Come to be heard.
Come to celebrate the women who came before us & the ones shaping the future.
