About this Event
JUST ANOTHER DAY
A Day in the Life of Colchester – 40 Years On
Special Evening Talk and Photographic Exhibition
📅 Wednesday 11 November 2026 | 7.30–9.00 pm
Remember Colchester in 1986? How much has changed in 40 years?
In October 1986, a group of local photographers set out to capture a single day in the life of Colchester.
Their project, Just Another Day, produced hundreds of photographs documenting the town, its people, workplaces, streets, and everyday activities.
Forty years later, these remarkable images offer a fascinating glimpse into Colchester's past, capturing familiar places, local characters, and everyday moments that might otherwise have been forgotten.
An Evening of Photography, History, and Memories
Join Peter Evans, Chris Farndell, and Alan Murrells for a special illustrated talk exploring the story behind Just Another Day.
Discover how the project came about, revisit Colchester through photographs taken in 1986, and reflect on how the town and its communities have changed over the past four decades.
Members of the Colchester 24 Trust, which holds the rights to the photographic archive, will also be present to answer questions.
Explore the Photographic Exhibition
Your evening ticket also includes the opportunity to view the Just Another Day photographic exhibition.
Featuring a selection of photographs from the original archive, the exhibition brings Colchester in 1986 back to life.
Rediscover familiar streets, revisit local businesses, and perhaps even recognise some familiar faces!
The exhibition is also open during normal Visitor Centre opening hours from Tuesday 27 October to Wednesday 11 November 2026.
