Keeping one going can be even harder.
Jump Start brings together entrepreneurs, business support organisations and experienced specialists for an afternoon of practical advice, honest conversations and useful connections for people starting and growing businesses.
For this next Jump Start, StartYard is bringing together Barclays Eagle Labs and The King’s Trust, alongside experts in finance, accountancy, marketing, digital and social media, plus a panel of entrepreneurs prepared to talk candidly about what it really takes to build a business.
Jump Start has a particular focus on businesses working across the creative, digital and technology sectors, but it is deliberately open to anyone thinking about starting a business, early-stage founders and existing small businesses from all sectors.
Whether you have an idea written on a piece of paper, have just started trading or have been running your business for several years, you are welcome.
StartYard is also part of the Left Bank Collective, working with other organisations to support the cultural and creative development of Birkenhead. Through that involvement, StartYard is contributing to the wider conversation around Birkenhead’s Town of Culture 2028 ambitions, linking entrepreneurship, creativity, culture and regeneration.

Barclays Eagle Labs
A practical introduction to the support available to entrepreneurs and growing businesses and how founders can access it.
The King’s Trust
An introduction to the support available to young entrepreneurs aged 18–30 and the journey from an initial idea through to starting and developing a business.
Finance & Accountancy
A short practical session looking at some of the financial things every founder should understand — including cashflow, VAT, tax, company structure and common early-stage mistakes.
Marketing, Digital & Social
Practical advice around finding customers, developing your brand, digital marketing, social media and making better use of new tools and technology.

We’ll finish with a panel of entrepreneurs talking honestly about their own journeys.

There will also be an opportunity for the audience to put their own questions to the panel and our business-support partners.

Jump Start exists to give people some of the practical tools, contacts, support and confidence that can make that journey a little easier.
And we’re looking beyond the event itself.
StartYard is developing plans for a regular Jump Start Surgery, bringing organisations including Barclays Eagle Labs and The King’s Trust together with accountants, lawyers and solicitors, marketing and digital specialists, insurance professionals and other experts.
The aim is simple: to create somewhere startups and small businesses can regularly come and get practical, one-to-one help.
For StartYard, that sits within a broader ambition to help Birkenhead become a place where entrepreneurs, creatives and growing businesses can start, connect, survive and grow, alongside the wider cultural and regeneration ambitions represented by the Left Bank Collective and Birkenhead’s Town of Culture 2028 bid.
