[ENG BELLOW]JULYEN HAMILTON | THEATRE WORKS

JULYEN HAMILTON | THEATRE WORKS
GROUPWORK : composing instantly as a group
🔹 Intensive Instant Composition Workshop
🔹 Thessaloniki | 3 – 7 January 2027
Among the various subjects which i cover in the THEATRE WORKS
is the focus upon the study and practice of GROUPWORK : composing Instantly as
a group.
This is such a delicate and wonderful area to consider and throw oneself into.
The configurations and arrangements which arise naturally go beyond the single
person’s viewpoint and into a spontaneous collective imagination.
Their complexity and yet human legibility is really something to study and immerse
oneself in.
We will be looking at strategies of navigation and developing our perceptions for
making enriched and theatrically strong pieces.

JULYEN HAMILTON. : biography
…is a dancer, choreographer, poet, and pioneer of instant-composed performance, Julyen
Hamilton has maintained a prolific performance career for the past 45 years. Grounded in
improvisation that merges physical movement with spoken live text, his work over this
period spans acclaimed solo pieces, company productions with his company “Allen’s Line”,
and many musical collaborations.
He begun his training in London during the mid-1970s his earliest works emerged out of a
specific era of radical aesthetic experimentation.
he composes dance works instantly as well as the texts which often accompany them. His
work with text is unique. It fuses naturally his long-term writing practice with his refined
skills in dancing.
When working with his company ALLEN’S LINE he directs dancers and lighting designers
to make and perform work through this same immediacy.
Since the 80’s he has performed constantly in close collaboration with many of the highest
quality musicians from all over Europe. (Nuria Andorra, Jordina Milla Beseny, Barre
Phillips, Fred Frith, Tristan Honsinger, Michael Moore… Nuria Andorra and Jordina Millá) It
is with some of these musicians that he gives readings of his poetry in the dutch band
RIVER.
He is at present performing the solos “a KOAN for our Times”, “ANONYMOUS”
and “SOLO for BARRE” throughout Europe and in S.America and S.Korea.
With his company ALLEN’S LINE, he has been performing their new work “WOLVES”
during Autumn 2025 and through 2026.
