Journeyman Farmer Alumni Short Course

The University of Georgia Extension Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program and the Center for Urban Agriculture invites program alumni to join us for a special short course designed to build on the knowledge and skills gained throughout the program.

Whether you are actively farming, expanding your operation, or continuing to work toward your farming goals, this session will provide an opportunity to explore practical management strategies, hear about current research, and connect with other farmers.

This year's short course will focus on two important topics to help growers improve soil health and prepare for the upcoming growing season.

Educational Sessions:

  • Research Spotlight: Building Soil Health with Poultry Litter & Biochar - Dr. Ted McAvoy; Healthy soil is the foundation of successful crop production. This session will highlight current research exploring the use of poultry litter and biochar to improve soil health. Participants will learn more about these soil amendments and their potential role in supporting sustainable farming practices.
  • Winter Pest & Disease Cleanup: Reducing Problems Before Spring - Dr. Ruchika Kashyap and Gabrielle Latora; Winter is an important time to get ahead of pest and disease problems before the next growing season begins. This session will cover practical strategies for reducing pest and disease pressure through winter cleanup, sanitation, and preventative management practices. Participants will learn steps they can take to help reduce potential problems in the spring.
